If your drawings reference a standard, we know exactly what you expect. If they don’t, we have to ask. Here are the three standards that appear most often in our RFQs:

💡 Profi-Tipp: If you write “ISO 2768-m” in your title block, we’ll machine to ±0,1mm for dimensions under 30mm and ±0,2mm for 30-120mm. That’s our default interpretation, and it works for 90% of industrial parts. If you need tighter, specify it — we can hold ±0.005mm on CNC where required.

5 häufige Zeichnungsfehler, die CNC-Angebote verzögern

After reviewing thousands of customer drawings, these five mistakes cause the most back-and-forth:

  1. Missing thread specifications. “M10” is not enough — is it M10×1.5 (coarse) or M10×1.0 (fine)? Is it through-hole or blind? What tolerance class — 6H or 6G? Thread details determine tooling and cycle time.
  2. Undefined surface roughness. A note like “Ra 3.2” (μm) tells us the finish. “Smooth” or “nice finish” doesn’t. For anodized aluminum, we default to Ra 1.6 before coating; for turned steel shafts, Ra 0.8 is standard. If you care about surface finish, put a number on it.
  3. Over-dimensioning or under-dimensioning. Every feature needs exactly one dimension reference. Redundant dimensions create ambiguity; missing dimensions force us to ask.
  4. No critical-to-function (CTF) callouts. We machine everything to the drawing, but if you flag which features are CTF, we can prioritize Inspektion time there and relax non-critical areas — saving you money.
  5. PDF-only with no 3D file. PDF is fine for review, but we need STEP, IGES, or X_T for CAM programming. Sendening both = fastest quote.

For the fastest quote: Senden STEP + PDF. The STEP file gives us the geometry; the PDF gives us the Anmerkungen, Toleranzen, and notes. This combination gets quoted in hours, not days.

If you’re designing in SolidWorks, here’s the streamlined workflow to generate a manufacturing-ready drawing:

  1. Open your 3D model → File → Make Drawing from Part/Montage.
  2. Choose sheet size and template. A3 or A4 for single parts; A2 or A1 for Baugruppen.
  3. Place standard views (front, top, right, isometric) from the View Palette. Add section views and detail views for complex features.

  5. Add GD&T Anmerkungen: Toleranzen, surface finish symbols, weld symbols, datums — from the Annotation toolbar.

  7. Export: Save as .slddrw for future edits. Export to PDF for the annotated drawing and STEP (.stp) for the 3D geometry — Senden both.

A good manufacturing drawing answers every question before the fabricator asks. Include material, finish, quantity, and your contact info in the title block. The goal is zero back-and-forth emails.
