Every machined part starts with dimensions. These are the tools that verify your part matches the drawing — from simple length checks to complex 3D geometric validation.

Calibri

The workhorse of any QC bench. Digital calipers provide quick measurements of external dimensions, internal diameters, depths, and steps. Micrometri

When tolerance calls for ±0.01mm or tighter, calipers aren’t enough. Outside Micrometri measure external diameters and thicknesses to 0.001mm (0.00005″) resolution. Our QC lab uses Mitutoyo QuantuMike digital Micrometri with 0.001mm resolution and ratchet thimbles for consistent measuring force. We also maintain inside Micrometri for bore diameters and depth Micrometri for blind hole inspection.

Typical use: Shaft diameters, bearing fits (H7/g6 Tolleranze), pin gauges, and any feature with a ±0.01mm callout.

A height gauge on a surface plate measures vertical distances from a reference plane — critical for checking parallelism, flatness, and step heights. Our digital height gauge with 0.001mm resolution, combined with a dial test indicator (0.002mm graduation), lets us verify that two faces are parallel within 0.01mm across a 100mm span.

Dial indicators are also mounted on magnetic stands for runout checks: mount the part in a V-block, rotate, and the indicator reveals shaft concentricity within 0.005mm.

The CMM is the centerpiece of precision QC. A ruda-tipped probe touches the part surface at programmed points, recording X-Y-Z coordinates to build a 3D point cloud. This is compared against the CAD model to generate a deviation report — every hole position, every surface profile, every angular relationship.

Our CMM achieves volumetric accuracy of ±0.003mm, making it the gold standard for verifying parts with geometric Tolleranze (GD&T) — true position, profile, concentricity, and perpendicularity. For a production run of 500 parts, we’ll CMM-inspect the first article (FAI), then sample every 50th part with the CMM while using gauges for routine checks.

Durometro (Rockwell) directly affects machinability, wear resistance, and structural integrity. If your part print specifies HRC 58–62 after heat treat, we test every batch before shipment and include hardness values on the inspection report. For critical aerospace or oil & gas parts, we’ll do Brinell on raw stock and Rockwell C after heat treat — dual verification.

A profilometer drags a diamond stylus across the surface, measuring peak-to-valley variations in microns. The result is an Ra (arithmetic average roughness) or Rz (mean peak-to-valley) value. Common machining surface finishes:

When your print calls for Ra 1.6µm (63µin) or better, we verify with the profilometer and include the measured values in the inspection report. Surface finish isn’t cosmetic — it affects seal performance, fatigue life, and coating adhesion.

Test non distruttivi (NDT)

For welded Assiemi, pressure vessels, and structural components, surface inspection alone isn’t enough. These NDT methods detect subsurface defects without damaging the part:

Test ultrasonici (UT)

High-frequency sound waves travel through the material and reflect off internal discontinuities — cracks, porosity, inclusions, or lamination. The transducer Invias pulses and the reflected echo is displayed on a screen. A trained UT technician can locate a 1mm flaw 100mm deep in steel plate.

When we use it: Weld inspection on structural fabrications, verifying raw material (plate, bar) integrity before machining, and post-weld heat treat verification.

Ispezione con Penetranti (DPI / PT)

For surface-breaking defects in non-porous materials. A colored or fluorescent dye is applied, allowed to seep into cracks, then the excess is removed. A developer draws the dye back out, making even hairline cracks visible under UV or white light. Simple, fast, and effective for aluminum, Acciaio inossidabile, and titanium weld inspection.

Ispezione con particelle magnetiche (MPI / MT)

Only works on ferromagnetic materials (steel, cast iron). The part is magnetized, iron particles are applied, and they cluster at surface and near-surface discontinuities where the magnetic field leaks. More sensitive than DPI for subsurface flaws in steel.

  • Go/No-Go gauges: Custom-made for production runs. The “Go” end must fit; the “No-Go” end must not. A semi-skilled operator can check 100 parts/hour with these — perfect for high-volume QC.
  • Thread plug and ring gauges: For UNC, UNF, metric M, and custom threads. Go/No-Go principle applied to pitch diameter.
  • Saldatura gauges: Measure fillet weld size, bevel angle, undercut depth, and reinforcement height. ASME and AWS compliant.
  • Optical comparator (shadowgraph): Projects a magnified silhouette of the part onto a screen with a reticle overlay. Excellent for thread form inspection, radius verification, and complex profile comparison at 10x–100x magnification.
  • Pin gauges: Precisionee-ground steel pins in 0.01mm increments. The fastest way to check hole diameters in production — insert the pin, if it fits, the hole is within tolerance.
